Internet Explorer 8 & 9 issues

All Categories > Web Site Issues

Windows Internet Explorer 8 & 9 have dramatically improved support for established and emerging industry standards. By default, Internet Explorer properly displays web pages designed to support these standards. However, because some of these standards are still evolving, older websites may not fully support them.

In order to help such websites display correctly, Internet Explorer supports a display mode called Compatibility View, which displays web pages as if they were viewed by an earlier version of the browser.
Note: Internet Explorer 9 will not install on systems still running Windows XP.
Issues using Internet Explorer 8 or in Internet Explorer 9:

A) You receive script error messages on some Web sites, for example:
  • “Processing SmarterMail is loading” dialog box continues to display and the log in process fails to successfully complete.

  • You are able to login to SmarterMail and when you click to read an email message, “SmarterMail is processing the request” dialog box appears and eventually times out.
B) Menus, images, or text are in the wrong positions on some Web sites.

C) Some Web site features do not work.

D) Internet Explorer stops working on some Web sites.
Note: A Web site will be displayed in Compatibility View until you turn it off or the Web site is updated to display correctly in the current version of Internet Explorer. However, if “Delete browsing history on exit” is checked, compatibility view will have to be turned on each time you encounter a Web site that isn’t viewing properly.
